Voting rights matter: Urge Congress to support the For the People Act

By Mike Young

The House could make history this week by passing historic protections that we haven’t seen since the passage of the Voting Rights Act.

The For The People Act (HR 1) makes participating in democracy easier by lowering barriers for frontline communities impacted most by the climate chaos of our time.

This crucial package of reforms would:

→ Make Election Day a federal holiday
→ Implement automatic and same-day voter registration
→ Expand early and vote-by-mail voting programs
→ End partisan gerrymandering
→ Prohibit corrupt voter purges

Sign the petition: urge your member of Congress to support voting rights today

We know that when our communities show up to the polls and vote, we win. But too often, forces in our national politics work to build barriers to make it harder for frontline communities to do just that. From the gutting of the Voting Rights Act to the oil lobby’s enhanced influence enabled by the Citizens United decision, the integrity of our democratic elections are under attack. For too long, we’ve been on the defense.

It’s time to go on offense. It’s time to pass HR 1.

Add your name now to urge Congress to pass this democracy reform package.

We are working to build a green economy and strengthen our democracy. Building an army of environmental voters who show up for every election - local, state, and federal - gives our elected officials the political mandate to act on climate change and helps us win more pro-environmental victories.

The ball is in our court, and we’re taking this issue head on. We need to ensure that every congressional member in the Texas delegation hears from their constituents that they should support this legislation.

Will you sign our petition today to urge your member of Congress to support this bill?

We need you in this fight now. It’s ours to win.
